Vital Questions to Ask Yourself Before You Buy That Gift | Lifestyle

Are you confused about what gift to buy for a loved one? Do you want to buy something nice and thoughtful, but you have analysis paralysis and can’t seem to decide? Creating a brainstorm with a list of gift ideas is great, but how can you be sure that you’re choosing the best gift? Here are some vital questions to ask yourself before you buy that gift!

Do I have the Budget for this Gift?
If you haven’t worked out a budget before looking for gifts, give yourself a slap on the wrist. A budget is the most important thing when looking for the perfect gift to give! This way, you know you’re not about to go into your overdraft to treat your Aunt Marge to a coffee machine. If you don’t have the budget for it, don’t buy it. Simple!

Is This Gift Thoughtful?
If you’ve literally walked into the supermarket and bought the first thing you’ve picked up, this gift isn’t very thoughtful at all. Anybody can give a generic gift like that. What’s the point in gift giving at all if you’re not doing it properly? You should think about what this person needs in their life. What you think they could use or something that would really help them. That’s when you become a good gift giver. It really is the thought that counts, so bear that in mind before you decide to do a quick gift shop in Tesco. Some sites do gifts for people with specific hobbies, so take a look at one of those if you know what this person is into, recommend the guys at

Can I make this Gift Myself?
Why not get creative and make the gift yourself? It’ll be cheaper, and so much more thoughtful. Sure, it might be a little rough around the edges, but the receiver will love how much thought you’ve put into this. I love making things to give to other people; you just can’t beat the feeling! You just need to find the time to set aside for it. Depending on what it is, it shouldn’t take you all that long if you dedicate an hour a day to it. You could make a scrapbook, photo album, photo frame, piece of jewellery...the list goes on! Don’t be afraid if you haven’t made anything yourself before. Watch a lot of tutorials, gather all of your materials, and just do your best. It’ll be appreciated no matter what. You could even write them a poem or a short story - you don’t need to get messy with fabrics and materials this way, and you still give them something extremely thoughtful.

Can I find this gift Cheaper Elsewhere?
If you’ve found a gift you’d like to give but it’s looking a little pricey, how about searching for it cheaper elsewhere? You want to make sure you’re still getting them the real deal, just at a better price! For instance, you can find iPads so much cheaper if you buy a refurbished model, and they look and run just as good! Just make sure you read reviews on the seller and product to ensure there will be no disappointments.

Have I Done my Research on this Gift?
Do your research on the gift you’ve in mind to make sure it’s everything it’s cracked up to be. If you buy a gift only because of the description given by the website, you might end up with something shoddy. Read reviews on impartial sites. Watch YouTube videos reviewing the gift. Work out if it’s really the gift you want to give!

Is There a Chance they could Already Have this Gift/Receive This Gift from Somebody Else?
If this gift is for a birthday or a similar occasion, make sure they are not going to be given this gift by somebody else too. Is there a chance they might receive this from somebody else? When I was younger I got the same Spice Girls album for my birthday, one off my mum and one off my auntie. It was a disaster! My auntie and my mother should have communicated better, and the situation could have been avoided. But no, that memory has stayed with me ever since.

Ask yourself these questions and you should eventually end up with the perfect gift to give to your loved one. I hope you enjoyed this post and you have an easy time gift shopping from now on - toodles!
