Wardrobe Staples You Shouldn't Skimp On | Fashion

Clothes shopping is the most convenient and affordable that it has ever been. Thanks to online shopping, bargain shops and year-round sales, purchasing garments is generally a positive experience for us and our wallets. While I’m not really complaining about this, I do think it is important that we avoid getting too sucked up in finding a bargain.

Sometimes quality should prevail. I know that quality usually comes at a cost, but doesn’t it make more sense to buy a few good items that will last for years rather than lots of cheap ones that only last a couple of wears? Read on for 5 wardrobe staples you shouldn’t skimp on.

1. Jumpers - I always spend a little more for a quality jumper. This is because I find that they keep their shape a lot better than their cheaper alternatives. Additionally,   because they don’t use synthetic materials, they are less likely to irritate my skin. Convinced? Have a look for good quality items from online retailers such as www.aransweatersdirect.com.

2. Workwear - A lot of people begrudge paying for clothes that they only wear to work. I understand this sentiment. However, I am more of the opinion that because they are the clothes you wear the most (as sad a truth as that is) it makes sense that they are super comfortable and smart. If you are a little reluctant, wait for the sales and buy great quality workwear for a fraction of the price.

3. Everyday shoes - The shoes that you spend most of your time in should be excellent quality. Choosing good everyday shoes is not only kind to your finances (as they are more likely to last you longer than cheap footwear) but also to your feet, back and posture. Cheap and badly fitting shoes will take their toll on your body, so it’s worth spending a little more on durable footwear.

4. Little black dress - Purely for the fact that you can get so much wear out of your little black dress, it’s a good idea to invest in a quality garment. Pick a style that fits you well and flatters your body shape to ensure you feel comfortable and beautiful in this item that you can wear over and over again. It will never go out of fashion so don’t be afraid to splash out!

5. Handbag - If you are like me your bag gets a fair beating on a daily basis. Between battling with the interior to find keys, being exposed to rain and wind and being raided by children, it’s a wonder how they make bags to withstand this treatment! I need a bag that is both durable and beautiful. To tick both these boxes I need to buy a quality item. On the plus side, like most things that you spend a little more on, it survives a long time.

For some wardrobe staples, like t-shirts and vest-tops, you don’t need to spend much. However, for others that you rely on regularly, paying a little extra will ensure you get beautiful and long-lasting items.
