4 Style Tips: From Winter To Spring | Fashion

Friday March 20 marks the official start of spring. That came as a shock to me too, especially when it dawned on me that I had absolutely nothing to wear in the warmer months! However, after a quick evaluation of my wardrobe, I realised I was being over dramatic. The great thing about the winter to spring transition is that it’s a gentle one. There are a lot of little nifty style techniques you can use that are much more practical than buying a whole new wardrobe. Read on for some of my favourite tips for an effortless and stylish transition from winter to spring.

1. Do a mash-up
It’s not warm enough for summer clothes, but it’s not cold enough for winter items either. So what do you do? You do a mash up! The winter meets summer look can be very chic indeed. Think woolen jumpers with floaty floral skirts and knee high socks. Pretty summer dresses with leggings and cardigans and denim shorts with long-sleeved tops and winter gilets. Be creative and have fun experimenting with these two ends of your wardrobe spectrum.

2. Layering is handy
Don’t put your winter cardigans and jumpers into hibernation just yet. The weather is still pretty unpredictable in spring, so layering is still a practical and fashionable technique. You just won’t need as many of them as you did in the winter. I like layering a vest top, sheer shirt, cardigan and light jacket. This way I’m prepared if it’s still on the chilly side, but I can also easily shed a layer if it gets warm.

3. Use accessories
Instead of buying lots of expensive items just for the spring, spend less on a few trendy accessories that liven up your ensembles. Traditionally worn by your grandma, the brooch is making a fashionable comeback. Sparkly and colourful floral and animal shapes are most popular and look great on jacket lapels and in the middle of a shirt collar. If you have piercings, bling jewelry will help to lift your look, especially when the spring sun dances off them. I also think you can’t go wrong with a few light and colourful scarves. Wear them around your neck, in your hair or on the straps of your bag to add a touch of vibrancy to any outfit.

4. Add colour
In the winter, we tend to wear dark greens, reds, browns and black. Just because the seasons are changing, that doesn’t mean you can’t still wear these colours. Just do your best to lift them with some spring colours. For example, add a bright t-shirt over a pair of dark jeans. Wear a pair of statement vivid heels with a dark dress or skirt. Even bright coloured nails can help to brighten up an otherwise dull outfit.

So, there’s no need to spend a fortune on a new spring wardrobe. As you can see, there are many tips and tricks that will help you to transition easily from a winter to spring. Most importantly, be creative and have fun!
