What I Look for in a Hair Salon - and You Should Too! | Beauty

Going to have our hair done is a luxurious treat. I mean, we always have the option of doing it ourselves at home with a box kit, which would be a whole lot cheaper. However, the fact is, you get to sit back and relax at a salon while somebody else takes care of all the hard stuff. They make just about any hair colour look natural and professional, whereas a box dye is always touch and go! Here’s what I look for in a hair salon, and what I think you should look for too.

A Great Atmosphere

The atmosphere of the hair salon you visit should be uplifting and positive. There should probably be some chatter, laughter, gossip, etc. I would hate to step foot in a salon where nobody was having a chat or a great treatment. When the atmosphere in the salon is a good one, you automatically feel relaxed and excited to have your hair done.

Cleanliness

I know you can’t keep a salon 100% clean, what with the hair and all that. However, it should be nice and sparkly where possible. Some salons seem to have been thrown together for quickness, but I like salons with a little something to the decor. Of course, this has nothing to do with whether your hair turns out right or not. It’s just the kind of place I like to be in!

Happy Clients

Clients should be happy, chatty, and pleased with their new dos. I know you can’t please everyone, and some people are just mardy so and sos. But the majority of clients should leave the salon feeling absolutely wonderful. If they look dejected, it’s not a place I want to have my hair done.

An Easy Way to Pay

One thing that really gets on my nerves about hair salons: paying! Unless you go somewhere ultra expensive like Francescos, you can’t always pay on your card. Many small salons ask for cash, but lots of us don’t like to carry cash - plus, you never know how much your hair will be until you’ve actually had it done! I remember when I found the right salon for me. They had this payment processing thing that let me pay with my iPad! I was so chuffed with my hair and then that topped it off. So payment processing for hair salons is a must!

A Hairdresser Who Understands Me

Finally, the hairdresser herself. She should understand me, or at least try really hard to. There’s nothing worse than thinking you’re on the same page as your hairdresser, only to leave with hair like Kim Kardashian when you wanted it more Emma Watson. They should ask lots of questions to try to understand the sort of style you want. Once you’ve been a few times if you’re happy with the service, they should just get you in a matter of moments.

Is there anything specific you look for in a hair salon? Let me know by leaving a comment!
