Just What The Hell is Vlogging, Anyway? | Lifestyle

If you’re an avid blog reader, then you may just have heard of vlogging at some point. If you’re new to blogs/blogging, you might not have heard of it at all. I’m here to tell you exactly what vlogging is, what can be gained from it, and who’s doing it. It could be a great way to make your own money on a self employed basis. Read on if you’re interested!

Vlogging is a great way to get your thoughts and feelings out there. If you’ve been blogging for some time, you might see vlogging as a sort of natural progression. You don’t have to; but many bloggers do. I haven’t, because I don’t think some viewers would be able to understand my accent! You could vlog about anything; an event you attended, what you bought when you went shopping, or even a product review. There are absolutely no rules when it comes to vlogging; if you’re passionate about it, vlog it!

If you become one of the most successful vloggers with a fanbase of millions, you could stand to earn a decent living too. It’s reported that some vloggers get paid thousands of pounds just for mentioning one product. Zoe Sugg, for example, is a huge influence in the vlogging/blogging world, as is her boyfriend Alfie Deyes. Zoe, or Zoella as she is known on her blog, even had a book release out recently called ‘Girl Online’. It seems that getting involved on social networks can seriously change your life if you’re determined enough! There are a ton of different platforms too, from Youtube to Keek. Latoya Forever is a popular vlogger on the short video site, Keek. If your videos are good enough, even if they are just short videos, you could get a huge following.

It’s not as easy as making a few videos and watching the pounds and followers roll in though. You need to be consistent, constantly posting high quality content and staying on top of your game. Lily Pebbles explains that she starts work at 7 and doesn’t usually finish until 6 in the evening. This is because a day will usually consist of making and editing vlogs, writing blogs, promoting them, and engaging with followers. A lot of the time will probably be spent on negotiating contracts too.

Unfortunately, many vloggers don’t like to reveal how much they earn. However, they have hinted that they are much better off than they’ve ever been. Let’s not forget that they also get sent free products too, as their reviews could literally make the product sell out in a matter of hours.

Just bear in mind that vlogging solely for the cash probably won’t get you anywhere. People who do it this way soon lose their interest. You need to vlog because you feel strongly about something, and the rest will fall into place.

Vlogging Tips:

  • Invest in a good camera.
  • Invest in professional lighting, or at least make sure the lighting is high quality.
  • Learn how to edit your videos.
  • Speak in a conversational tone.
  • Let your personality shine through!

Now you’re more clued up on vlogging, would you ever give it a try? Let me know!
