Liebster Award

I feel quite honoured being given a Liebster award from Sammie over at littleblondelife with my blog being so young (almost two weeks old!) and having so little followers. It honestly makes me feel good knowing that people are reading my blog and enjoying my posts!

Having found different rules for the Leibster award, I think I'll settle with these ones:

"Here are the rules for receiving this award:
1. Each person must post 11 things about themselves.
2. Answer the questions that the tagger set for you plus create 11 questions for the people you’ve tagged to answer.
3. Choose 11 people and link them in your post.
4. Go to their page and tell them.
5. No tag backs!"

So here we go:

1. I'm really into Chinese culture and I am currently learning Mandarin. Also, my fiance is Chinese and we are due to get married in 7 weeks and go back to China for our honeymoon.
2. I have a pet cat called Chii, although I'm really not a cat person.
3. I suffer quite badly with anxiety, I think that's why it's taken me years to start my blog.
4. My favourite colour is turquoise although people probably think it's pink
5. Over the past two years my hair has been more than 10 bright colours.
6. My favourite TV series of all time has to be Lost.
7. I've been a student of the Open University for two years and I'm studying a BA in Humanities.
8. I also work full time, and really enjoy my job!
9. I can be found most days living in Vans or Converse.
10. I used to be emo/scene in my late teens/early twenties.
11. My favourite band are Funeral for a Friend, I'm a metal/emo fan!

These are the questions from Sammie:

1. What was your new years resolution? I never make them as I never keep them.
2. Where is your favourite place on earth? I really love Thailand's beaches!
3. What is your most loved item of clothing? I have a few dresses from Primark I absolutely adore but I change my wardrobe too often to have a 'most loved' piece.
4. What is the most expensive thing you have bought? Probably my Chanel quilted bag.
5. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would you change? Probably my clothes size, I've always been a little unconfident about my weight but I've faced up to the fact I will never be a size 10!
6. What job did you want to have when you were little? I always pictured myself as a stand up comedienne or interior designer.
7. What is your favourite food? I love Chinese! Anything Chinese!
8. What is your first memory? Feeding the pigeons in Trafalgar Square with my brother when I was 3.
9. If you had to shop in one shop only for the rest of your life, what would it be? Primark, definitely. I always seem to be able to find great bargains there.
10. Do you have any pets? Yep, a cat. But I've had pet rats and dogs.
11. Finish this sentence: I blog because... ...it gives me an outlet to rant about what I like, and I can share my idea of fashion and beauty with the world :)

My questions are:
1. What is your perception on beauty?
2. Who do you idolise?
3. What made you decide to blog?
4. How do you feel your blog has evolved?
5. Do you still have ambitions/aspirations for your life?
6. Did you pursue education after school?
7. What animal would represent you?
8. Who is your favourite music artist?
9. What is your favourite print/pattern?
10. What was your most recent beauty purchase?
11. What was your most recent fashion purchase?

These are my favourite 11 blogs:

3. velvet-tidesxo
4. loraloves
5. nickikinickie
6. teaandlead
7. aprimarycolour
8. adayinmywheels
9. katsick
10. pinklittlebean
11. fashionsings

I hope you like the blogs I've nominated as much as I do!

Apocalips by Rimmel: Big Bang, Stellar and Luna

After trying to resist buying Rimmel Apocalips lip lacquers, today I majorly failed! After seeing everyone's blogs and swatches I had to try. Boots have them on 3 for 2 at the moment so seemed the wisest choice. I bought Luna, Stellar and Big Bang.

When I first saw them I was really impressed by the packaging and how it shows the product inside. The colour is really pigmented and bright - super impressive! After my first application, I struggled with the wand and had half of it over my face. Looking back at it now I think I put far too much on, you really only need a little to go a long way!

After my second, and much improved application I decided I was really impressed and might go back for the other colours! My favourite is Stella, such a bold pink colour.

Pros: good colour and a little goes a long way.
Cons: may need to apply a few times to make sure you are used to the applicator wand.

My first weekend edition

It's been one week since I officially opened my blog and I'm happy with it. I've had some positive feedback from Twitter and I feel I'm slowly falling into my own swing of things. I'm also becoming more accustomed to outfit of the day posts and I feel I'm comfortable taking shots of my outfits as I don't have enough space to do a full length shot.

I'm really enjoying the Polyvore posts at the moment as I feel it really allows me to play with my style, so there will be a few of those coming over the next days!

I would really appreciate it if you would let me know what you wanted to see more of?

My weekend (running from Friday AM as I have the luxury [I wish] of not working) has consisted of a mini haul from Dorothy Perkins, lots of studying and a lot of movies! I was extremely busy sorting out my Chinese Visa application as it's only 8 weeks until I get married and go on my honeymoon. At the moment I' constantly making jotting lists of outfits to wear and things I need to buy. I would have liked a trip into Leeds over the weekend but the snow made it very hard to get out of the front door - only to wake up to find we no longer have snow, just floods. Delightful British weather. Today, I have spent the day in bed (yes, extremely lazy) studying. It has been quite a productive day as I don't usually enjoy reading Greek/Roman poetry but found today not too bad. I also had a study buddy (my kitty cat).

Hope everyone else had a nice weekend?

I think the Dr. Martens sale has had me... (Part 2)

Sorry ladies, but I had to do another post on my Dr. Martens bargains. They have definitely had me over the holidays!

So here is part two. As I said previously I think Dr. Martens have revamped their look a little more this season and added a few more on trend items to their collection. I couldn't have been happier when I saw their accessories and bags collection. I did have my heart on a studded satchel but unfortunately it didn't seem a good idea to have that for hand luggage, so I decided to purchase this bag instead.

It's an interesting style, and extremely large. It comes with a front pocket and large top handle to carry. The star of the show is the fact it has handles and can be worn as a backpack. It is actually massive, probably the biggest sized bag I have ever owned. Perfect to fit all my hand luggage in and really useful to take my MacBook and books to Uni. Also, it's leather. And we all know it will only get better with age. Stunning!

A little set back at £125 on their site but I'm quite sure this is now in the sale. Sigh.

Also, during my purchase fever, I invested in a pair of stunning brogues. These stunning studded and buckled shoes are named Dayton, and come in the traditional colour oxblood. I couldn't have been more pleased when I saw these come up for £90, however, they are now down to £65!

Yet again, a stunner which gets much better with age!

What do you think? Are you a fan of Dr. Martens shoes?

Smokey cats & pleather

Mustard & Purple

Outfit of the day: the weekend edition

It's Saturday and I'm snowed in - yay!

Today I have on thick black tights from H&M 200 denier ;-) Primark burgundy and cross print shorts, and my favourite Miss Selfridge slouchy cross jumper! Snug as a bug in a rug today :-)

I was hoping to get myself off into town and buy a few travel bits and pieces but the weather is too bad. I've had to resort to studying. Ah well.

Keep safe everyone!

Unexpected mini haul

So as I was waiting for my eye test (sigh) I popped into Dorothy Perkins and had a browse at their new collection. As I'm due to go away in 8 weeks I'm having a few 'holiday shops'!

I found they still had their 25% off with student discount deal going so thought why not!

I first came across this fig lace skater dress and just had to have it - I have an addiction for dresses. After being deterred to the till I stumbled across a concession stand which I've not seen before. I absolutely fell in love with the sweet Peter Pan collar on this baby pink jumper. Had to have it!

Money spent in Dorothy Perkins: £39 including discount.

After being emailed from very.co.uk this evening I decided to check out their new ranges from Jameela Jamil and Fearne Cotton. As soon as I saw this skater dress in Jameela's collection I fell in love. The tiger print tee makes it really suitable for casual wear but the skirt makes it team up well for going out! A two in one dress, fantabulous for my holiday!

Jameela Jamil dress on very.co.uk came in at £49.

Outfit of the day: Friday edition

Here is a mini post on what I wore today. Currently I'm sat in Costa Coffee before my Specsavers appointment!

Primark dress, Office tan boots and Miss Selfridge jumper. Necklace is from Ever Ours.

Etude House: Miss Tangerine Cream Choux Blusher

I've never tried a cream blusher before, so when I was in Bangkok I managed to pick up a few products from the Miss Tangerine collection in Etude House. It seemed a good idea to give it a try!

I picked the very girly pink colour named Miss Berry. It isn't very berry in colour at all, but extremely bright and quite highly pigmented for a cream blusher. It is multi use so can be used as a lip stain too.

I have used this a few times (trust me I've needed to!) to make sure I have the right amount of application. It's easy to be overzealous when squeezing the tube, but you definitely only need a small amount to go a long way. I applied this with my fingers and blended in with a brush. Depending on your application you can have a tint of rosy pink cheeks, or end up looking like Barbie!

As you can see from the picture above, it is quite thick in consistency but when applied and buffed out with a brush leaves a really nice light pink glow. (Please note, I didn't use the same amount on the left as on the right - that was just to show the colour, you only need a small amount!).

Once I became accustomed to the application, I quite enjoyed the product. The only downside is that I have quite greasy skin and it doesn't really help.

I quite like the Miss Tangerine collection; I was put off at first with the word 'tangerine' as my skin doesn't suit orange, but through further delving they do have a nice range of colours.

Pros: two products in one, you only need a small amount
Cons: extremely bright pink, can leave your skin quite greasy

What do you think about the Miss Tangerine collection? Do you often use cream blushers?

Outfit of the day: work edition

Now I know the photo is extremely bad but as this is a new blog I'm playing around with what suits me best.

So here is what I wore today. I believe I may have gone for the schoolgirl shirt and pinafore combination but it seems suitable for work.

Dress is from New Look, the shirt in horse print is from G21 at Asda and the lipstick in shade 151 in Barry M. Necklaces are just from my collection, bought from Primark.

I have a thing for collar clips at the moment!

As this is my first post, what do you think?

I will be doing full length shots (yay for the size 16 girl!) once I work out lighting and a better way to photograph. Until then, you will just have to do with a snippet!

It should be a snow day!

But unfortunately for me it isn't. Much to contrary belief on the blogosphere, I do believe those who trawl through 4 inches of snow to get to work should get a medal. I was told this morning I'm a diligent worker! Woohoo!

My snow outfit for the day is my ASOS green fur collared coat with my black Dr. Martens Juney boots. No slipping and sliding for me!

What are you all doing today?
